Here we have a Hammered Dulcimer built by Dennis Dorogi. Mr. Dorogi was a famous and renowned builder of Appalachian style dulcimers but he also built excellent hammered dulcimers.
Here are the details of this particular instrument.
-Solid wood construction, no plywood
-Hard maple pin blocks, bridges and frame, 3/4" walnut perimeter rails, sitka soundboard,
redwood back
-Decorative rosettes
-12 over 11 strings, the treble course has four strings, the bass course has three strings
(a tuning is probably in order)
-The dimensions are as follows:
Bottom rail is 42 1/2", top rail is 24", slanted side rails are 18 1/4", the distance from
top to bottom is 15", the depth is 3 1/2"
The weight of the dulcimer by itself is 20 lbs. and with the case is 35 lbs.
The dulcimer comes with a few accessories
-a plush lined very robust case made with a solid wood frame and plywood sides. The case has some cosmetic dings.
- three sets of hammers, including two sets made by Howard Rugg of Capritaurus music store fame.
-an analog electronic tuner
-a folding X shaped stand
-a "third leg" which is support for the front of the dulcimer for lap playing
- a T style tuning wrench
-
This dulcimer has a very bright sound with excellent sustain. The instrument has always been well cared for and always stored in its case. The instrument has some superficial scuffing on the back that does not affect the sound at all and is not visible when playing.
This could be shipped but a local pickup is greatly preferred.
