"RARE/RARE/RARE"!!! This will be a somewhat long read...but for this truly rare/limited production motorcycle...it's something that needs to be detailed in such length. Some may already know of these models...some may not. This bike is not the standard Daytona and not something one will see at most motorcycle shows or related events! Take your time to absorb the info below.
This is 1 of less than 150 of this model year 1996 Triumph Daytona/Super III motorcycles that were built for Worldwide distribution...and 1 of less than 80 of these '96 motorcycles that were imported to the US market. Making this exact bike what would be considered "Ultra Rare"!
And, as described...direct from the pages of Triumph's Dealer brochures from that model year:
"Such is the exclusivity of this machine that less than 150 examples are being built for worldwide distribution this year. A Super III is reserved for the privileged few." (2nd from last pic is from Triumph's brochure on this '96 Super III).
Triumph produced this Super III line of motorcycles for only 3 years...1994/1995/1996. Some 805 in that 3 year-run were built for Worldwide distribution. Just 170-180 of those 805 were sent stateside/USA. Making any of these Daytona/Super III bikes quite rare and highly collectible (especially for a Triumph Collector). The '96 model year was the most exclusive! In fact...in 1996 with an MSRP of $14,295...see last image posted here (including shipping & set-up)...this bike was the MOST EXPENSIVE "3-cylinder" motorcycle in the world! That MSRP would be equal to today's money of over $29,000!
These Super III models were a collaborated effort between Triumph's factory "Hinckley Team" and the folks at "Cosworth Racing"/UK (World famous engine builders...known for creating some of the most successful and dominant racing engines in motorsport history).Triumph took the position of building a limited edition 900cc (885cc) 3-cylinder motorcycle. A highly engineered..."muscled-up" & lighter version of their successful Daytona 900 Triple...with a more powerful engine...exclusive carbon-fiber parts...Alcon 6-Pot brakes and a special paint scheme. Triumph had a "No Compromise" philosophy on the Build Quality of these Super III's...in fact that was the same philosophy on all and any of the builds of these Daytona bikes of the 1990's era! And it shows in these bikes! Very solid...very well built. Powerful & reliable motors.
I've owned 2 of these over the years. First a 1995 Super III and now this 1996 featured here. Additionally I had owned a 1995 Triumph Daytona 1200/4-cylinder. The "Big Brother" to the Daytona 900 series. The Super III...even being some 300cc's less...was a whopping $1000 more in '96 than the Daytona 1200! In my 56+ years of motorcycle riding & collecting...I've owned a number of Triumphs and a somewhat large assortment of other builders big-bore motorcycles (80 motorcycles that I can remember). This Daytona Super III is in such nice condition (outstanding in fact) that the next owner should be a collector and hopefully keep this in the current state of condition....ride sparingly and store indoor in a environmentally-controlled atmosphere.
Enough of my hype! Here's some details regarding this well kept motorcycle:
> Originally a 1-owner bike...that was owned by a fastidious enthusiast...but not ridden in a period of some years (2-3+ yrs).
> I have a copy of the original title and an assortment of cellophane wrapped Triumph brochures from the 1990's/1996 era.
> This bike is in all original condition (w/a few exceptions as noted in the below noted > mentions).
> Not repainted...No down-damage...No rust or corrosion (not of any consequence). No cracks in any of the body panels/fairing.
> Perfect seat (no rips/tears/or stitching issues) with removable cowling for 2-up riding.
> Very low miles @ 6,550 original miles.
> Original Owner's manual and assorted Triumph books and some collectible literature from 1st owner goes w/the bike.
> 2 Factory keys & factory tool kit goes w/the bike.
> The "Factory" Clear Windscreen (in perfect condition) goes w/the bike.
> Lockhart Race-screen (smoke tint) on bike now.
> Original turn signals had dry rotted stalks (a common issue w/all the Daytona series)...new genuine Triumph turn signals are on the bike...but had been changed from the 1990's models. I have a new set (4) that I ordered from England that go with the bike (for show judging purposes).
> There's a "Motion Activated Alarm" (a Triumph accessory part...w/a Horn/Siren sound & English accented gent shouting a warning).
> Clean/"Lien-Free" NYS Title in my name.
The motorcycle had sat in storage for at least 2-3 yrs...so, in the early part of 2025 (Feb-March) the bike had a complete...very comprehensive...front to back/top to bottom R&R. Including:
> New matching set of Continental Tires / "ContiMotion"series...with 2024 date codes (Maybe 200 miles on them)
> New Brake Pads at both ends
> Brake Master Cylinders & Calipers-Front & Rear were rebuilt
> Brake & Clutch Steel-Braided lines were pulled and ultrasonically cleaned
> New Brake Fluid as needed
> New O-Ring Chain installed
> New Air Filter
> New Petcock/Fuel Tap & all associated seals
> New Fuel Lines
> Gas Tank pulled and Professionally Steam-Cleaned (not "sealed"...as it was very nice to start...and did not need it)
> Heavy Duty Tank Protector
> New Fork Seals & Fluid
> New Battery w/Battery Tender cable
> Clutch Master Cylinder & Clutch Slave Cylinder...Cleaned & Rebuilt/Refilled w/new fluid
> Cooling System Flushed & Refilled w/New Coolant
> New NGK Spark Plugs
> Valve Clearances Checked & Adjusted
> Carburetors Pulled/Ultrasonically Cleaned & Rebuilt
> Engine Oil & Filter changed (using Castrol 4T/Full Synthetic)
> Zerk Fittings Greased
> New Turn Signals Installed
> Recent NYS Safety Inspection
NOTE: Genuine Triumph Factory Parts were used in almost all and any of the associated refurbishing done in this list!
If you are a Triumph Collector/Aficionado...fond of these "Race-Looking"/Full Fairing 1990's era motorcycles...this could be the bike for you! This is as perfect of an example of these very rare 1996 Super III bikes that one might find on the planet! The bike runs great...and handles well...stops fantastic w/those front 6-pot Alcons...everything works!
All images in the gallery are recent and show the exact condition (as best I could) of this beautiful motorcycle. I have more pictures available and several videos (incld. cold start & running) available to "seriously interested parties". If you have a "significant other" / father/mother / grand parents / financial advisor / any other relative/friend...any concerned individual that you need permission from to consider and/or buy this motorcycle...PLEASE ASK before you contact me! PLEASE...No scammers or dreamers!!!
Considering the rarity of this bike...the overall outstanding condition...all the $,$$$'s invested recently w/R&R...and what this thing sold for when new...the $7,000 (OBOO) I am asking is quite fair! Heck...'86 Honda Z50RD/Limit X-Mas Editions (kid's mini-bikes) are selling for over $10K...some over $20K!!! (Probably a $700-$800 bike New in '86.) I am rather firm on that price...but I will entertain offers OVER $7K! (LOL!) Thus the OBOO/"Or Best Offer Over"! CASH MONEY TALKS! SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY!
I've given a lot of info here. But...if you have any other questions/concerns...I welcome a "live" phone conversation with any interested parties. Actually prefer such. Any serious parties are encouraged to send a phone number and best time to call and I will call you!
Privately owned....retired 75 yr old. Long-term rider/collector/enthusiast. Located in Vestal, NY...near Binghamton NY (South Central NYS). NOT INTERESTED IN ANY TRADES. "CASH ONLY"!
