The Zaanse clock (Zaandam clocks) is known for its classic model, with figure of Atlas holding the world atop the clock and pear shaped weights to run the clock. In Greek mythology, Atlas is a Titan condemned to hold up the heavens or sky for eternity. The pendulum is a traditional figure of a horse and rider.
The words "Nu elck syn sin" appear on the clock front - and is middle age Dutch proverb which translates "to each his own" -- but is supposed to indicate a pleasant feeling that every owner of such a clock is having a good time.
