For a Phyllostachys, this is a “CLUMPING”specimen and usually only grows to around 20 feet in height although it has grown to 35 feet in New Jersey as pictured with stems reaching over 1.25 inches in diameter. It’s very easy to maintain, deer proof, insect, disease resistant, always green, helps the environment by providing habitat & oxygen while purifying the sir around you…
It’s a good choice as a containerized plant as it is so very cold hardy that being above ground will not be of concern that you will not need to bring it inside. The plants are deer and other animal resistant, insect resistant and require hardly any care. I have the plants bordering a side of my pool which brings a tropical look and privacy to the landscape.
It has attractive green canes with large evergreen foliage and stays hardy and green through the winters. It has the ability to provide a very dense canopy (if this is your desire, otherwise you can thin the canopy) and provides excellent shading. Effective uses are privacy screening, hedging, groves, wind breaks and a display specimen. Hardy to zone 5 and higher and in the hot summers in NJ it readily accepts full sun and high humidity. As stated earlier, the plant is hardy down to -3degrees. No watering has been the norm. The species has survived 2 polar vortexes with extremely cold temperatures for an extended period of time 13 years ago.
The plants were purchased about 16 years and have been prolific since in a the area of NJ I live.
The plants are being sold at $5 a foot approximately with labor materials (pots/bags, etc) taken into consideration.
There are various sizes available so please reach out to me so we can work together in securing exactly what you desire and at a fair price for shipping.
Feed back over the years available on EBay from all happy customers.
Thanks for looking!
