... Ball Four is a combination diary of Bouton's 1969 season & memoir of his years with the NY Yankees, Seattle Pilots & Houston Astros. Despite its controversy at the time (1970), with baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn's attempts to discredit it & label it as detrimental to the sport, it's considered to be one of the most important sports books ever written and the only sports-themed book to make the NY Public Library's 1996 list of Books of the Century. It's also listed in Time magazine's 100 greatest non-fiction books of all time.
This 20th Anniversary Edition features ... a new epilogue by Bouton, detailing his career as an inventor, his battles with the Wrigley Co. over bubble gum, his take on the Pete Rose controversy, and how baseball looks two decades after he changed its public image forever!
