A professional fine artist in San Francisco for over 30 years, Mark first painted outdoors as a teenager in Columbus, Ohio. After a time in engineering, he moved to California to complete his art education, eventually earning a BFA, an MFA, and taking numerous plein-air workshops. He has pursued his loves of outdoor and studio painting ever since.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:

I follow in the classic traditions of the 19th-century romantic landscape painters, inspired by the Hudson River School, Early California painters, and American and California Impressionists. My work is best described as tonal-colorist, Craftsman style. With heavy emphasis on plein-air (outdoor) painting, I seek to capture the many moods of the atmospheric landscape, from picturesque to sublime, always with a warm sense of place.
