Poompuhar is a town in the Mayiladuthurai district in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu - and Poompuhar is a brand name for the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation (TNHDC), which is a government-run organization that sells authentic, affordable, and attractive handicrafts. The TNHDC was established in 1973 by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr. Kalaignar.
